Over 30 years ago, Larry Makowski became a full time auctioneer and performed his first real estate auction in September 1974 (It was a successful sale! Unheard of in this timeframe) started Express Auctioneers. From the beginning, Larry had high hopes and national desire for his company. Watching the auction industry resisting change, Larry took control of the future of the auction industry in America and ramped up Express Auctioneers to become one of the most “high tech” auction houses in the country.
Ever the innovator, Larry brought great minds onboard to assist in his rapid growth. To some, rapid growth means a more corporate approach to business. This has never been Larry’s vision. Even as his company grew to become a regional powerhouse, Larry kept full control of the future by ensuring that EVERY Express Auction received his personal and professional touch. When asked, he explains it like this. “In the old days of auctioneering, the auctioneer showed up spoke fast and drove off. Nowadays, the Express Auctioneer is an asset recovery manager. As an example, when we perform a foreclosure, the Express Auctioneer becomes a ‘foreclosure management specialist’ working hand in hand as the direct contact with the legal team in charge of the foreclosure. We manage the entire foreclosure process with them.
Whether we are creating a home, business or property sale for one or 100 properties, the Express Auctioneer is available to answer all questions, approve all advertising and organize the Express Auction Event. Our job doesn’t end when the gavel falls. We continue to work with all parties to ensure a smooth transition of the property and disbursement. I guess you could say that the Express Auctioneer is here to make all the problems go away and ease the pain of what can be a very emotional process. I’m glad that we are there to help.”
As auctioneering enters the 21st century, Express Auctioneers work to ensure that the best and most effective use of digital technology is utilized to ensure the most rapid and effective asset disposal management.
Larry likes to say, “Express Auctioneers are known for their knowledge, honesty and integrity. If we didn’t have our good name, we wouldn’t have much. Ask a current or past Express Auction client. They’ll tell you all about us. Good luck. Good bidding.”
Editors note: We are asked all the time how Larry became known as “America’s Auctioneer”. Well, I met Larry about 13 years ago when my father started working with him. My dad says that Larry never turned down a chance to talk up auctioneering in America. He always represents himself as a textbook definition of an auctioneer, but he brings more to the table. His innovative mind and actions have brought only praise and acceptance to the auction industry in America. Whether spending his limited free time performing charity auctions or providing continuing education to up and coming auctioneers and real estate professionals, Larry has broken down barriers between real estate agents, brokers, lawyers and members of the auction industry. Ever humble, you will never hear Larry talking about his honorary title. You’ll just hear everybody else saying good things about Larry. - DB
